Sins of a Solar Empire Demo - will there be one?

Ok, I hear all the buzz and spin about this game and it does look very interesting.  However, it is developed by a company that I have no track record with.

I want to try this thing out before I buy it.  If it was another GalCiv or something then I would buy it right out (I bought into the beta for GC2-TA) but I have a hit and miss relationship with RTS, there are not many that I really enjoy.

So, does anyone know if and when a demo will be out?

Thanks

The devs are working on the demo right now. Should be out this month.

Looking forward to trying the demo....it takes a lot to pry my fingers from their death grip on my hard earned money so I'm hoping the demo will be up to that enormous task....

Anyone interested in the game is well advised to play the demo first. Much as I wanted to love the game, I find i can't. Coming from a 4X background I had high hopes for Sins, but found it to be far too much of an RTS for my taste. Too much complexity, depth, and too many options (like any sort of non-combat win) sacrificed in the name of making the game real-time. Even from an RTS standpoint it's kind of repetitive and indistinct (I prefer Dawn of War and Rise of Nations, personally), but that's just my opinion.

Anyway, my point is simply to try it before you buy it, I wish I had.

Thanks kryo, glad to hear a demo will come. Vinraith's experience is what I want to avoid. I am sure that Sins is a great game within the genre but when RTS is not your preferred type then it is prudent to try it out.

Thank again.

Yeah, I'm on the fence waiting for a demo as well.

Its not that I don't trust stardock, and not that I don't want to support them. But it is possible they made a fantastic game of a type that I'm just not that into. I need to see how much 4x made it past the RTS influence.

Go figure, I don't like MMORPGs either.

Same here. I'm as much of a Stardock fanboy as anyone here, but I still gotta play the Sins demo first. There's no point in my purchasing a game if it turns out to not actually be my cup of tea.

Well I got the demo, and thanks for that. I tried it and I will pass on the game. I just could not get into it. While the graphics are pretty and cool, GC2 is far better at depth etc because it is TBS as opposed to a RTS. I was surprised to see that it appeared to be a simple 2D playing field as opposed to a true 3D field like Homeworld was. Did I miss something?

Anyway, back to playing with the Beta of TA, long live the Gal Civ franchise!

PS - on a different note and I KNOW this has to be a low priority issue if a concern at all... I have been playing with the Windows XP version of Safari and the forums here would not let me post a reply using Safari. The text box for type was not present. Just an observation.

Thanks

We don't support Safari here since it makes up quite a miniscule amount of the visitor share.

Yeah, I figured it would be something not be concerned with. Given that your a game company, on a PC platform, etc. We only care at our company because we retail to the general public.
