-or- the advent of ad supported games
on 9/2/2007 7:02:20 PM
A few years ago, a game came along that got pretty great reviews. It also had pretty steep system requirements, as is often the case with AAA first-person shooter titles. I knew my rig at the time wouldn't run it well, so never did have a

Hell, it's about time!
-or- A huge announcement and a long awaited sequel
on 5/23/2007 6:15:45 PM
1998. Real-time strategy games were no new commodity. Dune, Command and Conquer, Total Annihilation, Age of Empires and Warcraft were all well known, well regarded and loved titles. But Blizzard wasn't content to sit on the success of

GTA IV: A social phenomenon
on 4/1/2007 8:23:36 AM
I have to admit, I just don't get it. I tried GTA III (Grand Theft Auto). Didn't do much for me. Tried GTA Vice City. Same thing. I liked the sandbox nature of the game, but I guess I just don't really like playing the

Unreal Tournament 2007 becomes UT3
on 1/26/2007 4:39:10 PM
Years ago, Epic Games released the demo for Unreal Tournament 2003. I had never played the original Unreal Tournament (UT), as I just wasn't really a fan of shooters. But the demo for UT2003 hooked me. It was my first year of medical school, and we used

Sony strikes again!
-or- another kick to the gamer's crotch
on 12/14/2006 11:44:08 AM
With the recent launch of the Playstation 3, Sony has been under a lot of scrutiny. Rightfully so in my opinion. Their incredibly arrogant smack talking right up to launch really bothered many consumers, myself included. I mean, having

Ad supported gaming sounds like a very interesting idea. I'd love to give one of these titles a try sometime.

FarCry has been around for ages (and still looks great and has better gameplay than a lot of FPS stories), so you can get it for cheap. Why put up with ads when you can just buy it, for ex
amazon
and you can probably do better.
$12 bucks is a small price to pay to enjoy one of the best shooters ever. :-/

Far Cry actually wasn't too bad - the Menu has a couple little borders on it with "McDonald's Dollar Menu" crap, and when you're loading a new level there's like a twenty second nonsensical thing.
All in all, it just made me want a double cheeseburger, but wasn't really annoying or in the way. If you want to give it a try, I say go for it. I haven't tried the others, but the ads in Far Cry really don't bother me at all.
It's just a bugger-all hard game . . .

Interesting post - How is far cry in terms of the ads? I have limited bandwidth and don't want to spend the few days dowloading it if I'm gonna be bombarded with ads to the point of ruining the game....
Thanks!
