Single Player Mode to Unlock Candidates?

I believe in TPM08 there was a single player mode which unlocked more candidates.  Is there anythign in TPM12 that unlocks candidates? Or is there a single player campaign I am missing?   

All I see is the ability to setup random games against a computer player, no campaign mode like last time where it gets harder and harder.
