GOP moderates want to limit tax cuts -- just like Sen. Kerry! Posted on Thursday, March 10, 2005 Unlike our dear friend, self-anointed 'moderateman,' *real* GOP moderates want to roll back some of GWB's tax cuts -- just like Sen Kerry! Senators Balk at Tax Cuts in Bush's Budget Link NYT, 10 Mar 2005: Uneasy about the potential impact on the ballooning federal deficit, the Senate Republicans called for $70.2 billion in tax cuts over the next five years, as opposed to the estimated $100 billion the White House is seeking. It does not specify which cuts will be extended or which taxes might be restored, but Senator Judd Gregg, the New Hampshire Republican who is chairman of the Budget Committee, said his intent was to extend reductions on capital gains and dividend taxes, which are set to expire in 2008. How radical & reckless are the tax cuts GWB & the radical right work so hard to protect? Nonpartisan GAO projections show that under GWB's tax cut extension, the federal budget will COVER NOTHING BUT INTEREST on the FEDERAL DEBT in 2040 -- two years *before* Social Security is projected to become insolvent. The GAO's summary (released 3/8/05) to the House Ways & Means committee: Link So where's the fiscal crisis? In today's radical & reckless borrow & spend policies -- first & foremost. Then Medicare & Medicaid (& Defense). Then Social Security. In that order.
